my name was in the paper this week! this is unreal.
the year is winding down, finals are next week, and this is my last blog post! my freshman year was nothing like I thought it would be.
when i compare my expectations before Biola to what actually has happened, the two are drastically different.
never did I think that by the end of my freshman year, I’d be…
performing my last improv show
securing a position as Features editor of the newspaper
not in Torrey
closer than ever before with my siblings
gearing up to live in Stewart next year
celebrating six months with my boyfriend (!!)
enjoying fellowship with my best friends (who were just my acquaintances in high school)
and preparing to intern at my home church’s high school ministry this summer!
a lot has happened, and God has captured my heart like never before. i have loved sharing bits and pieces of my college experience with you all. as you head into summer and are maybe gearing up to come to Biola, remember that God is holding you so, so tightly. pursue him as strongly as he has pursued you. give him your best instead of your leftovers. allow him to lead you down a path you never expected - he knows what he’s doing!
blessings,
heather
it’s the last week of blogging! i’ve saved my favorite video EVER for last. it’s tragic. ENJOY.
Have you seen this video yet?! It’s absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I love the wife’s example of selfless love and dedication. It’s inspiring and heartwarming - I hope to develop a servant’s heart like hers!

My homework is to pick any Bible passage and read it every day for 10 days in hopes that the Holy Spirit will illuminate its meaning to me. YES. Fun homework wins.
I jumped off the bridge, and it was: EPIC.
—— A few weeks ago, Haily and I watched this video in our room and I said I would love to bungee jump someday. Of course, I didn’t think it would ever happen.
But Haily was listening and WE ARE GOING BUNGEE JUMPING ON MAY 20th!! It’s my birthday present from her! We’re going to this same place in Azusa, CA and I couldn’t be more excited (and more terrified). Melanie, you are an inspiration. I love how you just go for it in this video. No hesitation. Teach me to be you.
this really beautiful song is sung by will winters and shot by adam hillyer, both biola students! i have been playing it over and over. so calming and lovely! give it a listen if you are looking for a peaceful song to do homework to.
angel friends.
I am so overwhelmed with the blessing of friendship. God is so so gracious to gift me with the friends that I have grown closer to in the past year!
My birthday is this Saturday, but I when I got back from my shower this morning, a big cupcake holder was sitting on my desk with a note from Haily explaining that the celebration starts today! My closest friends would be finding me throughout the day to give me a cupcake and a note, and by the end I would have 19 cupcakes from 19 friends!! Sweet Haily made them all and organized this whole thing where she called a secret meeting for everyone to pick up their cupcake to give to me. She is AMAZING, people.

So today my friends came to my classes, intercepted me while I was walking somewhere, found me at work, sat outside the building I was in waiting for me to come out, et cetera….they all had sweet notes and I got so excited and surprised every time. Haily and I only remembered to take one picture, but here it is…me and Natalie!

Best Presentation goes to my friend Lauren for her to-go box converted into a gold glitter treasure box. Puh-lease.

I feel SO incredibly loved and it’s only celebration day 1 of 3! My birthday gets better every year, I swear.
If I could encourage you all with something to be praying for- present to God your desire to have Godly, encouraging friendships! He wants to bless His children far beyond their wildest dreams with relationships where each person is bringing the other closer to Him. He wants you to have vibrant, fun, meaningful relationships, and often those are best developed in college!
In high school, I prayed a lot for deep relationships once I got to college. Immaturely, I didn’t really expect Him to answer it, because it seemed kind of too good to be true. But, friends, how FAITHFUL our God is! How eager to give His loved ones precious gifts, even when they have the tiniest faith that He’ll provide! He longs to satisfy You, ultimately with His presence alone, but also with tangible relationships. We have a mighty, powerful God listening to every word we think.
“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:13-14!
With something as vital as relationships, be bold in your requests to God. Pray expectantly. Pray knowing that He wants to answer. !!!!
